Lombardia's beginnings as an organic restaurant
My mother, Odette Buss, opened Lombardia in 1972. It was the first natural food shop in Antwerp. Lombardia only emerged as an organic restaurant later when I began working in the shop.
Dining out? Over the years Lombardia has evolved from an organic shop into an internationally renowned vegetarian and organic restaurant where new tastes and natural food are liberally experimented with. Vegetarians and non-vegetarians can sit in a colourful interior to eat freshly prepared dishes, which are sourced wherever possible from organic ingredients. Lombardia is a source of inspiration for other organic restaurants with its out-of-the-box decor and special menu.

Belgium - Organic food
Lombardia began by selling natural food and food supplements. As a result I grew up in a climate that formed the basis for my current cooking skills. Basically, at home I ate as you would at a vegetarian or organic restaurant. In the 1950s my grandparents ran a hotel with a gastronomic restaurant in Duinbergen. The Belgian Royal family stayed at the hotel several times, enjoying my grandfather's culinary wizardry.
My inspiration for preparing innovative recipes for which Lombardia is now famous, not only comes from my culinary genes but also from my background as a pro windsurfer and globetrotter.
Organic restaurant, isn't that a bit old hat?
People expect an organic restaurant to have a somewhat calmer and simpler atmosphere... But Lombardia takes you into an artistic world with a punk-like interior.
At Lombardia you'll find: snorting pigs at the door, a cuckoo clock on the wall, jungle animals on the ceiling and eye-catching graffiti, photos and slogans all over the place.
